How has your life changed since receiving your service dog?
He has been amazing. He has really made me feel more comfortable, even at home, just knowing he is there brings me peace of mind.
What is one thing you are able to do now that you couldn’t before receiving your dog?
My anxiety/depression was very bad. He has helped me lower the dose of my needed medications.I also could not motivate myself to go out and do things, even like walk around for exercise. Now with him, he needs it,and wants it so it motivates me. I have lost weight since having him.
Describe your daily life with your service dog?
My day is mostly like most. I go to work, I just bring my service animal with me. My jobs loves him and has given him his own ID badge. After work we go on walks or I throw the ball around the yard. Later on in the evening/night he lays on me while I watch some tv.
What effect has your service dog had on the relationships in your life?
Because I am doing better, I see my relationship being better. And my work home balance being better.
What is one thing you would tell a fellow veteran that was considering a service dog?
Do it.Having a real trained service animal can be life changing .. They are so smart and well behaved and the learning does not stop after they graduate. They continue to learn and adapt to you and your family, all while paying attention to your needs and helping with your day to day tasks.
