Steven Cook
Vice President, Director of Fund Development
Mr. Steven Cook was born on January 18, 1971, to Hubert and Dorothy Cook. He is not only a devoted son, brother, uncle, father, and grandfather but also a proud U.S. Army Veteran and dedicated Masonic member.
As a young man, Steven joined the U.S. Military, where he served in the 7th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army from 1989 to 1992. His deployments included Operation Just Cause in Panama (1989–1990) and MFO mission during Operation Desert Storm (1990–1991). For his honorable service, Mr. Cook earned several awards, including the Army Achievement Medal, the Southwest Asia Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Multi-National Forces and Observers Medal.
After fulfilling his military commitment, Steven returned home to Texas. It was in Houston where he met and married his wife of 29 years and counting, Lynn Cook. Together, they raised three children and are now proud grandparents to three grandchildren. Steven supported his family by working as a lineman for Southwestern Bell (now AT&T) for 17 years, until he retired in 2010 due to medical reasons. His career took the family from Houston to Brenham and ultimately to Kyle, Texas, where they settled in 2001.
In 2005, Steven joined the Kyle Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and has remained an active member ever since. He has served in numerous leadership roles, including Post Commander and District 5 Commander. His tireless dedication earned him the distinguished honors of All-State / All-American Post Commander (2015–2016) and All-State / All-American District Commander (2021–2022). Today, he continues his steadfast service to veterans through his involvement with the Kyle VFW.
In 2010, life took a dramatic turn when Steven and his son, Kyle, were involved in a serious car accident. Though both survived, the road to recovery was long and difficult. During this period of healing and reflection, Steven began a new chapter. Inspired by his father, Hubert Cook, a Mason himself, Steven asked the right question of the right person, and soon after, petitioned to become a Mason.
Today, Mr. Cook is a second-generation Mason, a title he holds close to his heart. True to form, he committed himself fully to the Craft. He is an endowed member of four lodges: Live Oak #304, Wimberley #1445, Johnson City #561, and Hardeman #179 in Luling, TX. He has served as Past Master of Live Oak Lodge twice, as well as Past Master of both Wimberley and Hardeman lodges. Additionally, Mr. Cook has served consecutively as Past District Deputy Grand Master (DDGM) for both District 52 and District 35A.
Among his many honors, Mr. Cook was awarded the Golden Trowel in 2019—one of the highest recognitions a Mason can receive. He is also a proud member of both the Shriners and York Rite.
Mr. Cook’s commitment doesn’t stop with Masonry or the VFW. He has been honored by both the Kyle Police Department and the Luling Police Department for his unwavering support of public service. He remains a mentor, role model, and community leader whose life of service continues to inspire others—especially the next generation.
Nothing makes him prouder than seeing his legacy continue. He has watched his son, Kyle Cook, become the Worshipful Master of Live Oak Lodge in Kyle—the youngest to hold that title in the Lodge’s 154-year history. A third-generation Mason, Kyle now walks the same path of service and brotherhood that his father and grandfather paved before him.
